Simples Irresistable

Robert Palmer 1988

A few points about meercats. Bizzarely some of them DON'T wear shirts, ties or smoking jackets! Neither do they bloody stand still to be photographed, and the horrors refuse to stay nicely in the shade OR the sun. This one lived in the rocky bit behind where we were sitting at a camp site by the white lady rock painting area. It skitted about for a while while we poked lenses at it and then run into the bar for a catfood dinner. Turns out our route really wasn't meercat country, which was a bit disappointing for me, but I guess this means that I'll just have to go back to see more and maybe pop over to the Botswana Kalahari park, shame.

Here is also a good place to mention light. I wonder if cameras sold in Europe are set up for European light? All of my auto preset options, (fully auto, landscape, portrait and even beach etc) were coming up overexposed in the strong light so it was doors to manual for much of the fortnight. Initially I was really annoyed but actually it was probably the best thing for taking me what felt a great leap forward in my twiddling abilities. As above, the meercat was VERY hard to blip, I have chosen to show this almostrescuedfromover-exposure one as it's the best view of his face but can't say I'm particularly pleased with it. Might manage another for the folio.
