Jay's Wildscapes

Mystery.

A gift of nature that I often fail to notice is the gift of mystery. We don't have to venture somewhere far and exotic to experience the unknown, to feel the magic of 'what's that'.

I spent my growing years transfixed by ponds. Wondering what lurked below the closed world of the surface film. Occasionally strange beasts would poke some appendage through the divide and show promise of what's below. I acquired nets and jars and fished to my heart's content. My microscope became a portal into a strange new dimension and enabled me to watch a microcosmic world of mystery.

A mystery that's there for all. And it's not just about what's below the surface. We can ask what's in that deep wood, what happens after dark, what will the tide leave behind, how will that tree feel.....

Aren't we lucky.
