Anyhoooos, saw the Eurovision kick off programme last night. So another year of not standing a chance. At least we're not dredging up another cruise ship singer for one last stab at the limelight.

I was bought up with the Eurovision being quite an important night for a family get together. I got to stay up way past my bedtime, and there was oodles of peanut caramel crackling on top along with bottles of pop.

Some decades later, though the family has mostly disappeared, I still willingly carry on that tradition. I know it's not the done thing for a bloke to enjoy the Eurovision; but I love the whole charade of it all. It would be nice if it was to bring Europe together more as a community as I expect it was originally envisioned, but ho hum. We can laugh at the French and look on weirdly at the Russians, knowing full well we're putting up a load of crap too.
