Trimborn Farm

This barn is part of the original estate of Werner Trimborn, who bought the land in 1851. He became one of the largest producers of quality lime in Wisconsin, & at the height of his success, in the 1870's, his estate entailed some 500 acres & he employed 40 people. With the 1900's came a drastic change in building materials, including the introduction of Portland Cement, so his business began declining, & eventually most of the land was divided & sold off. The present estate is comprised of just 7.5 acres & 9 of the original buildings, is owned by Milwaukee County & is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This barn was built around 1858 to house both grain & animals. If you look to the left of the small window, you'll notice lighter areas--that isn't faded paint--it's actually the wind playing with the snow by swirling it up & around in front of the barn!
