Love is - the sweetest thing.......
With the limited tools at my disposal, I tried to make this shot look nostalgic, for many reasons.
Here are my dear friends and neighbours, Jill and Peter. They are sitting in what they call "The Bothy", which is a restored byre in the garden of their house. Far from being the basic shelter which a bothy is, this bothy is full of the evidence of the passion of Peter - film, T.V., music. It houses part of the collection which Peter has gathered for years, and this has become the "Melvaig Cinema". In this room, guests such as myself are pampered with whatever film or show we want to see (and I mean any film), with a continuous stream of glasses of wine. Magic. I don't have the lens to include the screen & sound equipment!
The 2 of them are like young lovers, calling each other 'darling' & 'sweetheart', and although Jill has retired, Peter still works 3 weeks on/3 weeks off down in London. Peter still loves the proximity of theatre life in London, and both of them have spent much of their lives involved with the theatre. Jill, in fact, was the personal assistant for many years to Derek Nimmo (late comic actor) and to Dave Allen (the Irish comedian).
Every evening spent in their company is full of wonderful stories of fascinating lives.
What impresses most, however, is how much they love their life in Scotland, and in such a remote part of it. They are to be seen every day walking down the road with their lovely English mastiff, Oliver, who should really have featured in this blip.
However, just as in the Hitchcock tradition, Dimairt my dog makes a cameo appearance... in every blip? Surely not?
I feel that this shot makes them look every inch of filmstars; and with our lovely weather, they are both wearing shades! (Apologies for all of you in Yorkshire today!)
