Dechirikoan
THE KOAN.
So I decided to do something a little different with this blip, instead of drawing I decided to oil pastel. I went and sat down on a bench near the Arts Centre and did a few sketches of the Koan, mainly to suss out proportion and scenery. Got a few strange looks, not surprised really. I took these sketches back and drew up the image in pencil, then used oil pastels for colour.
I have attempted to use directional shading/lines to convey a sense of movement in the image, it might have worked, I guess that is up to the viewer to decide. Oh and the title? Dechirikoan. Doesn't really make much sense unless I explain it. Check out the artist Giorgio de Chirico. Just have a look at the subject, the background, colours used etc, I tried to capture de Chirico's unnerving nightmarish style in this image. Looks pretty cool in my opinion.
