Brave

On 6th March 2012, local men Private Daniel Wilford, 21, Private Anton Frampton, 20, Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, Private Christopher Kershaw, 19, Private Daniel Wade, 20, all of the 3rd Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment and Nigel Coupe, 33, of the 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment were killed by a massive IED in Afghanistan.

Private Frampton had been a pupil at my daughter's school; most of them were barely older than my son is now.

I look at this bench every day in the park and try to imagine the horror of that day, for the six of them and for their families. My brain's self protection mechanisms won't allow me to picture it.

The motto is that of the Yorkshire Regiment - I am not sure I agree with it.
