Escadaria Selaron

This wonderful staircase in the backstreets of Rio was created by a Chilean artist as a tribute to the Brazilian people, there are 250 steps covered in over 2000 tiles. Whilst he was alive (Jorge Selaron) continually changed the tiles, initially from ones he found but then as the staircase became more famous, from tiles sent to him from around the world, it's fascinating!
He was found dead on the staircase in January 2013 and there seems to be a continuing question of whether he was killed or committed suicide. However he always said that the staircase would only be finished when he died so now it's done....maybe?
