African penguin

We went to Boulder Beach, one of only two mainland colonies of the endangered African penguin. They are doing well here despite the amount of residential building nearby. Just two breeding pairs arrived in 1982 and the colony has now grown to about 2200 birds. I gather the other mainland colony has recently been damaged by pollution, so this site is really precious.
