York Museum Gardens
Today I spent much of the day in York, a city I’d never been to before. Best known for its Roman history and its Cathedral, the York Minster, (home of the Archbishop of York), the city also has some beautiful gardens in the grounds of the York Museum. I enjoyed an hour or so exploring all the different areas of the gardens. This view overlooks the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey, first built in 1088 and which was once the most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England. The newly blossoming daffodils brightened up what was otherwise a cold and grey day.
When I got back to my friend’s house this evening, she invited me to go with her to her local gardening club meeting where they would be hearing a talk by a well-known local gardener. Not knowing any more than that, I agreed to go, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that the speaker was none other than Alison Pringle, the head gardener at these very same Museum gardens! Having spent over an hour exploring her garden earlier in the day, I was delighted to hear so much more about it and recognized all that she showed us in her slide presentation. Afterwards I spoke with her and said how much I had enjoyed my visit in her garden.
