Tick tock

I recently read that stimulants such as caffeine first became popular during the same era in which clock time was invented. I read this while sipping a dark roast at lettered streets coffee shop and getting ready to teach at a school which has it's motto "Waste not thy hour" inscribed across the front door. It makes sense to me...once there were hours, there became the need to squeeze more from each hour. My caffeine addiction is fueled by my race against the clock. If productivity were not quantified in second, minutes, days, years, what would speed matter? That being said, there is something beautiful about an old fashioned clock.
