PITSTONE WINDMILL
Took my Nephew M to Melen photographic studios this am (See here ) & came back via Pitstone. He knew where it was but we got very lost on the way there, though we eventually found it where I met Phil Richardson who M was assisting today. He runs all sorts of courses & I think that I had better make the effort & attend one sometime soon.
Pitstone Windmill is a Post mill meaning that you can push the wooden structure of the mill by way of the big red wheel, the mill is pivoted on a central post which gives it its name. With this type of mill the wind is always blowing in the right direction. I believe that this is one of the finest & oldest examples in the country, along with Brill Windmill which is also in Buckinghamshire. There is more about the mill here !
It was a cool morning, dull & grey but by the time I got home at about 1030 the sun was shining.
