New day - new beginnings

Driving back and forth

I spent a good deal of time in the car today. I drove into Reykjavík to visit my mother at the hospital (about 45-50 min. drive), but decided to run some errands before the visit. Then I got a call from my husband back home in Akureyri, saying that the hospital had rung, and announced that my mother was being transferred to Keflavík (her hometown, where I'm staying). Yesterday evening, when I left the hospital, the last thing I did was to make sure the staff had my phone number, but the people working the morning shift today didn't find any information about her next of kin. So I had come all this way to visit her, and then she was gone when I got there. I became rather frustrated, I must admit that. But I drove back to Keflavík and got to see her at the hospital there. She will be there for the next few weeks, while recovering from the surgery.

Afterwards, I drove into Reykjavík again, to meet up with two good friends of mine. We had dinner and coffee together, and it was very nice to meet them and catch up. It was almost midnight when I drove back to Keflavík, but luckily the weather was nice so it was an easy ride. If I count the kilo-meters, I have driven around 200 km. today, or almost half the way between Akureyri (my hometown) and Reykjavík (the capital).

I snapped this picture with my phone on my way into Reykjavík, the second time around. Since I spent so much time in the car today I found it an appropriate motif ;-)
