First Lord of the Isles

Went into Aberdeen Art Gallery today to view the Great Tapestry of Scotland and Sorley was absolutely chuffed to bits when he saw Panel 26 which showed Somerled, the First Lord of the Isles, as Sorley is the English version of the Norsk Somerled (Gaelic is Somerhairle) (see this if you want all the details - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerled ).

He was taking great delight in telling anyone who'd listen that that was his name as he avidly pointed at the tapestry panel!

They are also creating an Aberdeen Tapestry at the moment and we all added some stitches to it and got to add our names (and ages!) to the book showing everyone who had contributed - the kids loved this!

Would highly recommend a trip to see it if you are in Aberdeen, some absolutely stunning panels (there are 160 in total), and lot's of interesting accompanying facts - made me feel very patriotic! It's on till 19th April.

Sorry about the quality of the shot, you are not allowed flash photography and it was difficult to get Sorley to stand still!
