The Goose and The Gander

Uyghur Noodle Place

About once a week or so, The Goose and I walk about 25 minutes or so to a wonderful little restaurant.

Operated by Uyghurs (an ethnic minority group), their specialty is homemade noodles. These kinds of restaurants can be found in almost every city, district, or village.

From what we can tell, a family funs the whole place, and the younger children help out with everything. Except this one.

She just sits there, looking cute. Sometime she sings, sometimes she tries to blow whistles, but never smiles at us. I think we scare her.

Can't blame her, but my goal from now on out is to crack a smile on her face.

Maybe she's just skeptical and wise, but she sure has the most stoic face for a young child I have ever seen. You can't really see it with this picture, so maybe one day I can get a better portrait instead of a paparazzi style one.

Anyway, tonight we ordered some of our favorites: Tomato and egg over fresh noodles and slivered potatoes and veggies over rice. We also had some homemade bread and soup.

I like how this came out of the non-smiling girl, framed between our two cups of tea.
