The Black Dunes

These are the dunes of Skeithararsandur, an eerie collection of black sand piled in small to medium-sized dunes on which isolated brown grasses grow. They are part of a large alluvial plain and, like so many places in Iceland, very beautiful indeed.
The water in this image is not from the main river, but a much smaller trickle off to the side.
