Happydays- Day 63
Today was an absolutely perfect day! It was SUNNY and WARM! I think Spring is well and truly here! I even saw the first butterfly of the season, it was bright yellow, an ideal symbolic marker for the day.
We went to Rixton Clay Pits for a wander around. Very very excitingly (for me) we saw some newts when we were peering into the pond. I've never seen them before in the wild and I always look closely when we go to Rixton as I know they breed there, but I never imagined we would see so many! It was great- there were about three juveniles swimming around (two different types I think) and several adults hiding (unsuccessfully) in the moss.
The kids also found a few cat- tails (or possibly I found the cat-tails for them) and they loved taking them apart and blowing the fluff around. I brought some of the seed filaments home to look at under the microscope, along with some moss, roots, and a tiny snail that Chickpea found. I am so happy that I can now indulge in geeky things that I love and pretend that it's all for the children.
Chickpea's deep thought of the day-- "Our whole world is massive but on a map it looks really small."
