Second Wind!

Couldn't resist our clear blue skies as the backdrop to these windtowers!

Temperatures are beginning to soar...31c today....so think our winter is almost over.

These structures are the precursors to our modern day air conditioning....but much more environmentally friendly! Many are now just added as decorative features on modern villas serving no real usefulness.....but originally they wafted cool breezes down into simple living rooms giving the occupants, some welcome relief from the searing desert heat.

Built mainly over the bedroom areas, enterprising owners would often wet the inner sacking so that when the breeze wafted through, it carried cool damp air with it! Clever stuff!

These are replicas on a compound of modern villas that I pass daily on my way to and from school...and with clear blue skies.....who could resist!
