Lancaster Park, Jade Stadium AMI stadium
Mono Monday - Architecture
Known by all three names over the years the stadium was damaged in the earthquake and now lies abandoned. The Hadlee Stand has already been demolished, and the fate of the rest of the stadium is unresolved.
Lancaster was the first owner of the land. He was an Englishman who set up a company selling candles. With some of the money he made he and his wife set up a convent of nuns who took in young girls and trained them to be domestic servants.
It has been used for concerts and events as well as international sporting fixtures.
The old entrance gate is a memorial to the contribution sportsmen made during WW1.
I very rarely photograph any buildings, so quite the challenge.
This is the link to Hobbs Run the blipper who is providing the challenges!
