Dunnottar Castle
The weather forecast said it was going to be sunny today, but the Banchory area seemed to be under a cloud. Looking south the sky looked a bit clearer so we pointed the car in that direction. By the time we got to Stonehaven we had emerged into the sunshine.
It seemed like a good day for a walk along the cliffs at Dunnottar Castle. This is one of Scotland's most photogenic castles standing on a headland with near vertical cliffs on all sides, connected to the shore by a small strip of land. The castle must have been almost impregnable. It has featured throughout Scotland's history, perhaps most notably when the Scottish crown jewels were hidden here from Oliver Cromwell's army.
After a walk along the cliff path we adjoined to Stonehaven Harbour where we made a visit to the Ship Inn.
