MONOMONDAY:Architecture

I am not sure whether an architect could have been involved with this seventeenth century building in Essex! It was probably originally just the small building in the centre, before the two wings were built on, and more recently it has been extended to cater for the busy pub trade it houses. The irregularity of the timbering distinguishes it from the many mock Tudor pubs that were put up in the 1930s and 40s.
We were in Essex for the funeral of a 94 year old aunt in Normous' family. We met lots of long lost relatives in this large family. Aunty Winnie was the next to youngest of eight children of whom Normous' mother was the eldest. She was the last of that generation and there was a feeling of exposure amongst the next generation there today!
