Fondue

E, N and I enjoyed a lazy day in Basel in preparation for the start of Fasnacht. After walking along the bank of the Rhine we sat in the sunshine and had a beer and sausage.

In the evening we went to L's for fondue and to drink wine and schnapps until we left at 4am for Morgestraich, a procession through the streets of Basel where around 200 illuminated canvass lanterns are paraded through the darkened streets, accompanied by the cliques with their drummers and piccolo players.

We stopped off at a local restaurant for more beer and Mehlsuppe (bread soup) before heading home around 7am.
