Going going gone
Let's have one last look at a crocus before they give way to the other spring flowers.
I didn't realise till I watched Gardeners' World last week that crocus petals only open when the sun has warmed them. This is because they have upturned flowers and would fill with water in the rain. Snowdrops, on the other hand, have flowers which point downwards so that rain just runs off the petals and does no damage. We live in a beautiful and amazingly planned world.
