The Carousel of Tax Season

We had a 6:00 p.m. appointment in the Orange County city of Irvine with a tax advisor/CPA who is new to us. So we stopped at the Irvine Spectrum to get ourselves some dinner. We had a "Subway" sandwich and sat on their patio in the warm early evening air. Just across from us -- yes, the carousel. Honest, if we would have had more time I would have taken a ride. Maybe next time. And the tax appointment was a wonderful experience. We do not owe any further tax for 2013! Woohoo!

Wikipedia explains -- A carousel (from French carrousel, from Italian carosello), or merry-go-round, is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating circular platform with seats for riders. The "seats" are traditionally in the form of rows of wooden horses or other animals mounted on posts, many of which are moved up and down by gearwork to simulate galloping, to the accompaniment of looped circus music. This leads to one of the alternative names, the galloper. Other popular names are jumper, roundabout, horseabout and flying horses.

This poem below caught my attention because of my photo, but even more so because its reality was truly felt by the poet.

Merry-Go-Round

Where is the Jim Crow section
On this merry-go-round,
Mister, cause I want to ride?
Down South where I come from
White and colored
Can't sit side by side.
Down South on the train
There's a Jim Crow car.
On the bus we're put in the back—
But there ain't no back
To a merry-go-round!
Where's the horse
For a kid that's black?
