Time present and time past
An honest man here lies at rest
As e'er God with his image blest;
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
Robert Burns, Epitaph on William Muir; 1784
I had no idea what to do for today's blip, but on the day of dad's funeral it seemed appropriate to acknowledge the role he and mum played in supporting my brother and me and our families over the years. This is the only photograph I could find of their wedding day almost 66 years ago. Young, happy and with their future still to be written, the journey they set out on in 1948 finally came to an end today.
