Pantalettes
Flounces of fungi,
Fine as lace frilled pantalettes,
To hide coy ankles.
At least that's what it made me think of. There is a sort of urban myth that the Victorians were so prudish that they covered the legs of piano's with lace frilly things .... not sure if this is actually true, but in trying to find a word for these I discovered that the cotton and lace "trousers" that young girls wore under their skirts were called "pantalettes" ..... aren't words wonderful!
Thanks for all the comments on yesterdays lost dog ..... I will catch up tomorrow as it is now past the witching hour and I must retire until the morrow ...... (sorry - have come over all Victorian ....).
