March 13th 2009 - On the edge
Some of us had a cunning plan to watch the sunrise from the baths and so Louise, Christine, Katja, Soren and I woke up at 5.30am and off we went. We got to the baths, settled into the nearly boiling water (it was much hotter than last time!) and realised what a bad idea this was. It was cloudy. Fine, clouds move. But we are in a mountain basin so the clouds won’t be rising soon. Worse….we are in a mountain basin. The sun ain’t rising over the mountains for a while as yet!
We headed back shortly afterwards, awake and doing all of the normal things like emailing happy birthday to Hayley, reading and having cheese pancakes for breakfast (they tasted a bit like cheesecake for some reason). We had Spanish bingo and I played a bit of footie – I must have been out of form though as I kicked the ball onto another building and had to have it retrieved by a roofer. A few of us took the ball to a park and played a bit of 5 aside which was awesome, even if it did ruin my socks, before we played some EcuaVolley.
We then went on a mountain bike tour which was hard work – my week of drinking had not helped my fitness! Part of the way through we got to bungee. Damn that was amazing. The bungee crew were myself, Christine, Maïté, Sally and Hilde and I got to go first. I was nervous. My calfs were almost cramping up. As I was climbing onto the concrete fence I was pale and my legs were shaking. The kisses and support of the rest was meaningless now. I looked down. Shit, I was scary. I stared at the trees in the distances and tried not to look down again.
Three…two…one….I jumped. What a rush.
It was simply unbelievable. I’ve never felt anything like that. In no time at all I was just hanging in the air, thrilled, exhilarated, joyous. Just so damn happy. My mind was free, just adrenaline. The rest loved there jumps as well – Maïté flipped, Sally walked, Christine did it in her own time and Hilde went backwards.
We carried on with the bike ride, stopping off towards the end to get soaked by the spray of an enormous waterfall. That evening I was dolly for Mia and Louise St as they played dress up with me, culminating in me in ‘Danish attire’ looking oh so hot. We all headed out to a bar called Leprechaun that night which was a great night, with a couple of ‘proper’ chats to Tara and Sally, lots of fun and plenty of alcohol.
