Mereside Fog
This morning the fog was very thick so I couldn't resist going to Ellesmere to see The Mere. The trees and waterfowl looked beautiful retreating into the mist.
The trees in the background are on Moscow island which has a large heronry in the treetops and can be viewed from the Visitors Centre opposite.
It is called Moscow Island because it was created in 1812 the year that Napoleon retreated from Moscow. It was made from soil dug to create Ellesmere House gardens and was a Victorian picnic place. Now the herons are it's only visitors.
