Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Nae bombing!

If the notices on the harbour wall are anything to go by then the inhabitants of Gardenstown (aka Gamrie) must be a God fearing and peaceful lot. I can't help wondering, though, if it is Ok to bomb vessels from the air, the cliffs, the roof tops or from the beach.

As for yesterday's mystery circles, Shutterup, WeeChris and ceridwen were spot on with Limpets. When the tide is in limpets Patella vulgata wander over their rock, scraping up and eating algae. As the tide falls they return, who knows how, to their favourite resting place and press themselves tightly against the rock with their muscular foot. Over time and many tides their shells gradually engrave a depression in the soft sandstone, leaving these typical limpet scars or "foot prints".
