Leaving the south of Mull.
The ankle was playing up and it was suggested we call into our island hospital on the way home. The staff here are brilliant, an X-Ray was taken the doctor arrived and X-ray result showed a break in two places, The aim from now was to organise a trip to Paisley as quickly as possible. It was agreed that John could take me thank goodness. I am writing this a few days later and can relate the facts for the day.
John left me in our little hospital, drove home to change vehicles and collect clothes etc. We made it for the 5.00 ferry.
If all had gone well we should have arrived in Paisley about 8.30 pm but for some reason the road closure at Rest and Be Thankful wasn't announced at the Loch Awe end of the Inverary road. There was a sign at Inverary to tell us the road was closed from the 16th - 21st March. As this didn't apply we carried on feeling uncertain, stopped at a pub to see if they could shed any light and phoned the police for their comments.
The police stated they hadn't placed a road closure sign along that road although the council may have. It was dark and wet and perhaps we couldn't think straight, we carried on until the road was closed, a large landrover vehicle blocking the way with lights all over the place and two people who told us the road was closed. No sign but after a 45 minute drive they could place two men in a vehicle at the point of closure.
In fact the chaps proved to be fine and suggested we contact the Scottish executive to make a point. John turned the car around and fortunately the hospital into Paisley is very well sign posted. Just the job for two tired and stressed people from Mull. We arrived just before 10.00 pm and following some confusion the system kicked into place, another X ray was taken in readiness for the orthopedic team. The very young orthapedic doctor we met that night was superb. A lovely lovely person. And whats more she was the best person I have ever come across to take blood.
