Ambush
A crab spider, an arachnid belonging to the family Thomisidae, prepares an ambush at a butterfly, hidden under a thistle flower.
Like all members of his family, this spider does not build traps or webs but hunting its prey by attacking them when they are approaching a flower.
I have noticed this spider white and almost transparent, and I watched with curiosity and attention to his movements. He was hidden under the flower until the butterfly has settled to drink the nectar. At that moment the spider attacked with a quick motion.
The photo captures the moment when the spider lifts the front pair of legs and gets ready to pounce on its prey.
Unfortunately, or fortunately from the point of view of the butterfly, the spider has missed his prey and is back in its standby position.
With great disappointment, I believe!
