Bus Challenge No 8
With a little help from a train, or four!!
My father had a ‘big’ birthday today, and to celebrate he wanted to visit Oxford. So off we all went on a family outing by bus to Bath, where we caught the train to Oxford, changing trains at Didcot.
As we travelled East, the fog became more and more dense, and we arrived in a rather chilly Oxford, just in time to track down a decent steak for lunch for the Birthday Boy.
By the time lunch was finished, the sun had started to peep through the mist and we spent a lovely afternoon strolling the streets of Oxford, dodging cycling students, and visiting the impressive European art collection at The Ashmolean Museum, before ending the day with a guided visit of the stunning fifteenth century Bodleian Library.
We left Oxford under the setting sun, and enjoyed a wonderful sunset over Didcot Power Station! By the time we'd returned to Bath, the fog had started to descend again.
This is a view of the Radcliffe Camera, from the archways of The Bodleian quadrangles. The Radcliffe Camera is part of Oxford University, it was designed by James Gibbs in the English Palladian style and built in 1737–1749 to house the Radcliffe Science Library.
