Penny planting
This morning we planted up one of the beds in the Linda Vista Gardens with donated plants. These included about a dozen Red-Hot Pokers (kniphofia), and many day lilies (hemerocallis) - or at least they may be, or they might be something else. And as to their colour, we'll just have to wait and see, and then move plants if teh colour scheme doesn't work.
It's rather exciting - a bit like creating a meal from tins, all of which have lost their labels!
Down the centre of the bed, the kniphofias snake their way in a sinusoidal curve. In the foreground right is a quite large rosemary bush. An added complication was that the Parks Department had already planted up the bed with many tulips - so we planted in between them. The effect could be odd or marvellous!
In the blip, Penny, one of the friends of Linda Vista, is replanting a displaced tulip.
This afternoon, I added what I believe to be asphodels (but which had a label saying aquilegia), some Baby's Breath (gypsophila), some of what might be anenomes or might be alchemilla mollis, and ten little rosemarys, that I hope will make a low hedge.
And we planted two trees that local folk have sponsored in the new autumn colour tree collection. So a busy day - and perfect gardening weather!
