This is the news: A healthy lunch

Being a Friday and having neglected to make my own, I decided to stroll down to the local fish and chip shop and obtain a healthy sort of lunch. I work for an organisation with sensitivities to matters of health (e.g. smoke free campus). So when I returned with my bounty, instead of parading my choices for all and sundry to sniff, and sniff at, I sought out a quiet corner where I could indulge my guilty pleasure.

I am very lucky to work on such a beautiful site, mature and gracious trees, cicadas hammering out their last summer rhythms, and at times, morning and evening, bellbirds sending down their pure tones from the lofty branches. So it is not too hard or unexpected to find a corner resembling some stately park, complete with picnic table! And this one was designed for someone taller than 1.5 metres. A bonus.

There was no way I could eat all this and ended up biffing more than half of it and regretting my greasy and salty culinary adventure. Also, where was the newspaper? A big attraction of this sort of meal is the free reading matter, usually bearing news of far more interest and relevance than anything in the more current editions. This was blank newsprint, inviting perhaps my own inventions. So be it.
