Sumo

Witnessing something like sumo is always going to be a thrill. It’s weird and unique and whilst you may have seen it on TV it's an amazing spectator sport close up.

Few rules, lots of ritual, pomp and ceremony and surprisingly lightning fast bouts of the 'blink and you miss it' type. For all that it is one of the biggest sports here and it was a great day out. The grand champions were rightly named and having seen the novice bouts earlier in the day they were without doubt in a league of their own as well as being remarkably nimble on their feet for such big blokes (think 190 kilos!)

What is sumo but a dance between giants?
