Still waterlogged
In the deep wooded marl pit beside our house there is still a good depth of water where the water table in the chalk aquifer of the North Downs is high. It has reduced a little and there are watermarks on the emerging trees. The "dell" as we call it belongs to our neighbours and they have planted some special trees down there but I should imagine they won't survive being submerged for so long. A mallard and a coot have been investigating whether this could be a new nesting place for them. This happened once before when there was water in the dell, and they were disappointed when in the summer the water finally drained away.
I have tried many times to take a blip of this. The reflection of the sky in the water is confusing. The sun is picking out the bare branches of trees. I hope you can understand it!
Today has been dominated by rugby in our household and at half time in Paris the final 6 nations result is still not determined. Will Normous be celebrating this evening I wonder?
