Eid-al-Adha...
...or the festival of sacrifice...this is probably the second biggest festival for Muslims, who sacrifice sheep/goat today to commemorate Ibrahim, the Prophet's willingness to sacrifice his son to the Allah
Hyderabad, having a great percentage of muslim diaspora, witnesses grand celebrations of Eid-al-Adha...one can see numerous camps on the roadside for sheep trading...villagers and traders from nearby villages and towns flock the city with the animals they've brought from around Hyderabad to trade in the city...we found ourselves in the middle of such a 'market' early this morning...there were people who were putting up here for the last few days, managing with just a few hours of sleep each night, trying to sell their stock of sheep and get back to their family as soon as they can...the sheep fetch good price...each sheep goes easily for a few thousand rupees...the customers then sacrifice the sheep and distribute the meet among family and poor people...we happened to ride through some old narrow alleys of the inner parts of the city as well and could see clear signs of the sacrifice...stream of bloody-water on the road, sheep skin - to mention a few...
