Berwick Races

I had a good swim this morning, before the kids arrived. Going early is definitely the way to go.

Then it was the 6 monthly flat visit. My tenants are lovely and the flat is looking lovely. I had a foray into the back green to dig up some snowdrops 'in the green' and the rhubarb. It was sad to see the garden that I spent so much time over looking so overgrown. The tree that came down from next door's garden didn't help. It lies all chopped up at the end of the garden. But losing the trees in our back green and next door has opened up a vista as far as Spottiswoode Road. You can get a sense of how it must have looked when the flats first went up in the early 1900's.

Then a very long trip to Sainsbury's to buy food for tomorrow's lunch. My back and leg was so sore and I'm getting a bit worried about my left knee. Old age doesn't come itself as Isabel used to say, and being overweight doesn't help and that is going the wrong way.

I started to watch the rugby but gave up. What a disastrous score but I was glad Ireland won. #2 son flitted to and fro with his newly red beard before he set off for Berwick, #3 son watched in a pub in Aberystwyth and #1 son, was he watching in KL?

I spent the afternoon tidying the house and then I too set off for Berwick. I was so tired I nearly fell asleep on the train - yes a train, again. I wanted to blip the bridges. I go over the rail bridge so often it was good to see it from a different angle and it has this fantastic light show - rippling lights changing the colour of the arches. you have no idea what is going on underneath you as you pass over on the eastcoast.

I got slightly mislaid getting to the Bowling Club. We were there for a fundraising Race Night, fundraising for #2 son and his colleagues' Marathon undertaking. It was a fun night and I enjoyed meeting #2 son's workmates. His boss is from the NE and we talked Doric for a while and the joys of working for a cross border agency.

I'd 'bought' 8 horses and one won so I got a litre bottle of Bailey's. Ah well all in a good cause.

There was a bit of delay at the end and chat about the taxi arrangements. I eventually got home at 1.30 a.m., hence the back blip. We drove passed JustAllan's road end about 1 a.m., too late, or early, to go in for a cuppa!

And the red beard - well that's because he's a Dons supporter. Come On You Reds, the Cup is there for the taking.
