Play With Colours

A gorgeous warm day, soaked in sunshine and happiness oozing unlimited all around.

I spotted a gathering of people with their faces painted and chattering with excitement. The challenge immediately took shape in my mind so I hurried after the group and caught up with them in a small street.

"You are celebrating!" I chatted up the nearby men with a smile.
"Happy Holi!" a couple of them greeted me.
"Happy Holi!" said I (without much of a clue). "Tell me about this Festival!"
"It's a celebration of colour! Of good over evil", one of the women explained.
"Put some colour on his face!" another one suggested.
Within a moment I had some purple powder smeared on my forehead.

"Let me take a picture of you all!", this instantly stirred more excitement. "Let's walk over to that little square. The light there is better." Then I led the small procession across the road to the impromptu chosen spot.

The kindness and positive aura of these people were precious gifts to me. They made me feel welcome in their midst and gave me nourishing food for thought. I walked away with a painted forehead and may have looked somewhat hypomanic to the lay passer-by but didn't care (too) much. I was celebrating the colours around me and the good had won over the evil in me.

Later on I read a bit more about the Festival of Holi.
