Hints of Autumn
Our first day at Lake Wanaka was lovely and sunny an very warm. We took a walk to the Rippon Vineyard. They sure do have amazing view over Lake Wanaka and the wines were good too!
In 1975, Central Otago pioneer wine-growers, Rolfe and Lois Mills, started trialling vines on the land now known as Rippon Vineyard. Today, their children care for the property, farming the land biodynamically, growing and producing wines from their single 15ha vineyard.
With no fertilisers, fungicides and all natural fermentations, the aim is to produce wines that speak of their soils and their surroundings, retaining an absolute respect for the land and the life therein.
Rippon is open to the public for wine tastings and sales and, whilst there is no restaurant, there is a picnic area looking out through the vines to the lake and organic cheese platters are available from the tasting room.
