Mono Monday:water
This is the River Mole as it flows under the ancient bridge at Leatherhead. It is back within its banks now and no longer coffee coloured, but all along the banks there is debris caught in the riverside trees.
Further upstream the river bed is deep gravel and in extremely dry years the river flows under this gravel and the river bed is exposed and dry. This last happened in 1975 and I took the children for a walk along the river bed, a strange experience for us. We picked up a few pieces of very worn glass and a little filigree square. The local golf club members were delighted when some previously stolen silver plate trophies were also found. Presumably the thieves threw them in the river when they discovered they were not solid silver, never dreaming that they would eventually be exposed due to the quirkiness of this local river!
This is my contribution to Hobbs' Mono Monday:water challenge.
