New bike goes for a spin

Weekdays at Glentress very quiet. New bike going well but a few things to get use to.
Gear cable slackened of so gear change was clunckie. I took it back to shop and they explained to me, in simpliest terms that they slacken of when new....then they replaced the cable!?
