White stork

Strolling in Vondelpark is always a pleasure. Many birds make their homes in the park, including white storks, who breed in a natural area in the south western part of the park. This is one of a pair that was out foraging this afternoon.

Vondelpark was named after Joost van den Vondel (1587–1679), the most prominent Dutch poet, writer and playwright of the 17th century.
