WALKING DOWN TO THE LIBRARY
It was a nice day for a walk to our local library. We both enjoy these visits. Mundy browses the newspapers while I browse the shelves. The frisson of excitement as we unpack the books on our return home and delve into them makes library days a delight that lasts. I am reminded of a comment* by Philip Howard, Literary Editor of The Times. He was reviewing Philip Ward's book - A Lifetime's Reading, in Books and Bookmen, September, 82 - Reading maketh a full man. It diverteth for hours, it broadens the mind and dispels boredom. I dare say it even maketh hairs grow upon the chest.
*I'm a comment hoarder, and have been for years. They are scribbled in notebooks, diaries, index books and on scraps of paper. One day I'll gather them together on my computer. Perhaps.
