The Edge of the Wold

A glimpse of the sun

After a relentlessly grey day and wet afternoon, the sun made a welcome last minute appearance before its disappearance for the night. Gus was at home with Wifie, so I popped along to the end of the prom before going home. Two days ago as I brought Gus along here for his last walk of the day, a lady backed out of a parking space and clipped the back of the car as we went past. The car was scratched but Gus was unmoved by the experience, except for the delay in his walk as details were exchanged.

We missed the fine weather when we were away for two weeks, the grey followed us northwards and then came home with us. It is noticeable though just how much Spring has advanced in our absence. The woods are now echoing with bird song and calls (though I am still yet to hear my first chiffchaff), the violets are out, and the buds on the big overhanging beech in this photograph are swelling towards bursting. The buds on our Katsura tree have already opened, revealing the tiny heart shaped leaves within. Reggie is still inside, but is eating all the dandelions that he is given. All we need now is some unbroken sunshine.
