Beach Yarn
Each summer we have a family get together at Rehobeth beach. Scintilla brings his family from AK, my family comes from Virginia, our sister comes up from Va Beach. My dad and stepmother come from suburban Maryland. Assorted friends and extended family show up. There are big meals, lots of wine, badminton in the backyard, tennis, an evening at Funland on the boardwalk, a rainy afternoon at the local cineplex watching the latest action film, one or two arguments, etc, etc, etc..
While at the beach, Calico and my daughter L. make necklaces out of colorful nylon yarn and glass beads from the craft store. I still wear mine from last year around my neck, like some sort of over-the-hill middle-aged beachbum-throwback to the seventies.
This morning I was nuking my morning coffee and put my cup down next to the yarn box which L. has put out on the kitchen counter (in anticipation of this summer's beach trip?). I love the colors and again the picture just begged to be captured. A little bit of cropping and adjustment of color saturation and contrast and voila.
I love digital!!!
(The only way I could have found such color saturation with film would be with Kodachrome 25 and bright diffused daylight, along with about 4 or 5 stops of bracketing to try and find an exposure.)
