Raquel educated us today, that in Spain it's common for things to be measured in hands.

I'm picturing the conversation... something like:

"How big was that space for the bedroom table again?"
"Get one that's 3 hands wide"
"Done, now let's go and get some meatballs"

The tricky thing is obviously the size of hands varies. In our small office sample, which I'm pretty sure is representative, we ranged from 7 to 8.2 inches. A bit too much room for error for my liking.
