An afternoon of curling

The World Women's Curling Championships are on all week at the local arena, and I finally got a chance to see one of the "draws" this afternoon. My mum & I got great seats and really enjoyed ourselves, as we pretended to be experts and discussed strategy & the best play options for the 8 teams battling it out on the ice.

Although we were there to cheer for Team Canada in its match against China (Canada won!), we also watched what was happening on the other sheets: Scotland vs USA, the Czech Republic vs Switzerland & Denmark vs Germany.

Until recently, I only had a nodding acquaintance with the sport of curling. During the Olympics, I watched a couple of games and found I was really enjoying the skill & strategy involved. And now I am a big fan. Of course it doesn't hurt that Canada won Gold in both Ladies & Men's Curling at the Olympics, and that the sport has a high profile here in Saint John (this is the 3rd time we've hosted the Worlds). And it looks like we may be on the podium again. Go Canada Go!
