Shadows????

I thought these were shadows when I first saw them but on close examination they were steps in the field. As these were of uniform width and stretched for three fields I concluded that they must be remnants of medieval farming strips. This would make sense as this area of East Yorkshire (near Sledmere) has a history of farming from pre-Roman times.
