Disc Pad horror

Replaced the rear disc brake pads on the bike a few days ago...

Slightly horrified to see the crumbled state of them....to cap it all, the friction pads came away from their backing plates when picked at with my thumbnail..

Thank goodness the fronts were nothing like this...not much stopping power from twice the national speed limit...ish...
New pad shown for comparison.
